WHAT TO EXPECT IN THERAPY

NOT MANY PEOPLE KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT AT THEIR FIRST THERAPY APPOINTMENT, AND THE UNKNOWN CAN BE SCARY. WE WANT TO MAKE THE FIRST VISIT COMFORTABLE AND EASY, SO HERE ARE A FEW GOOD POINTS TO KNOW:

  • When you walk into the waiting room, you’ll see a few light switches with names hanging next to them. Find your therapist’s name, and turn the switch on. This is how we know you’re here, and we can come get you from the waiting room.

  • We want to know a number of details about you, but the most common first question we will ask is “So, what brings you to therapy?” You can answer this question however you want, in as much detail as you need.

  • Therapy is a long, deep conversation between two people, and it can take awhile for each of us to get really comfortable. If you’re not ready to talk about something, be open and tell us

  • We also like to do more than talk- progress in therapy comes in many forms and we know and believe everyone expresses in different ways- verbally AND physically. We are open to finding what works best for you.

  • There’s no right or wrong answer to the questions we ask…just be yourself

INTAKE SESSION

The intake session is our chance to meet you and discover your strengths, get to know your background, your goals for therapy and develop a relationship to guide the therapeutic direction. If you don't have any specific goals, that's ok too. Below are forms to fill out prior to your intake session.

  • Therapy Intake Form

  • Sport Psychology Intake Form

ONGOING SESSIONS

After the intake, if you feel your therapist is a good fit for you, you can schedule on-going sessions to meet your needs and goals. You will work with your therapist in scheduling sessions that fit both of your schedules.
